Want to keep your air conditioner in top shape? One of the best things you can do is get it cleaned and inspected regularly. Here are a few things you should know about the value of regular air conditioner maintenance for prolonging the life of your unit.
A Dirty Air Conditioner is Less Efficient
The condensing unit, the outside part of the air conditioner, collects dirt and debris all year round, especially if there is foliage nearby. This clogs the fins, restricting airflow and therefore reducing the efficiency of the unit.
Dirt build-up on your A-coil, can cause big problems, affecting both the air conditioner and the furnace. Cleaning the unit on a regular basis can increase its efficiency and help you avoid surprise breakdowns and costly repairs.
How Often Should You Get Your Air Conditioner Furnace Cleaned?
Recommended cleaning frequency may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and may also depend on how old your air conditioner is. But at minimum, you should get it cleaned every other year.
Our scheduled air conditioner maintenance includes:
- Inspect blower motor
- Check the A-coil
- Clear drain lines
- Verify amperage
- Inspect & clean contactor
- Check pressures
- Check thermostat operation
- Inspect the electrical connections
- Oil required parts
- Hose down condenser
Should you cover your air conditioner when not in use?
Rodman’s does not recommend covering your air conditioner. They are built to withstand all weather conditions. Covering the unit can create condensation, which corrodes parts. It also creates a cozy environment for small critters to escape winter and often times they will chew wires, effectively disabling your unit for use when the warm weather comes.
